Park-O, Rainbow Forest, Fig Tree Pocket, Brisbane

15:30 Saturday 29th October 2005
"Rainbow Forest" 2004 1:7,500 5m
UBD 178 D12 9km SW of Brisbane CBD
"Long" 4.5km 30m climb
Good use of the map - other courses here have been less interesting. I had a good run without errors but my 34 minutes (7.5mpk) was beaten by 24 others (almost half the field) including the winner in 23 minutes - 5 mpk.
Thanks to Ian Anderson and UG for the event, CP and RK for the map.

Yep, the climb was brutal. 64 minutes and despite making no mistakes one of my worst results in a while - way down the list.
Thanks to Judy Scott for the event.

Mid-Week Event, Chermside Hills, Brisbane

12:00 Thursday 13th October 2005
"Chermside Hills" 2005 1:10,000 5m
UBD119 D12 1okm WNW of Brisbane CBD
"Long Scatter" 10 controls 3.4km 95m (2.8%)
Not a perfect run... I went anticlockwise and attacked the 3rd control (68) from the track junction, went in early and traversed, finding all of the gullies as advertised but no control - and then hit the track junction. Went back, tried again, same result, gave it away. In retrospect I think that the track junction I found was at the southern end of the short stretch of fence just north of the control. The fence indeed was there but I had disregarded it because I had earlier noted that the fences were unreliable. And the gullies I found? And the large gully that was supposed to be there? I wanted to go look afterwards - maybe another day.
My only other problem was 62 at the SW corner. The control was in a tiny erosion gully in the centre of the circle but I found it only as I was giving up and leaving for the next control... look closely at the map and you'll see a tiny kink in the contour. I'm sure it's a cartographic wobble!
So I had an ordinary result about which no more.
Thanks to Jim Bowling for the event, Trevor et al for the map.

Mid-Week Event, Bunyaville East, Brisbane

Thursday 5th October 2005
"Bunyaville State Forest (East)" 2005 1:10,000 5m
"Long" 4.5km 210m climb (4.7%)
UBD118 E8 13km NW of Brisbane CBD
The first hot and dry event of the season with temperatures around 35degC. Dane kindly brought the long course back through the event centre to allow us to stop for drinks and unfortunately more than half of us, including myself, DNFed! I like most runners overshot number 2.
Thanks to Dane Cavanagh for the event, Jon Sutcliffe and OQ for the map.
