UBD 118 H9 12km NW of Brisbane CBD
"Red 3" 11 controls 4.6km 160m climb (3.5%)
I was sluggish and took 57 minutes, winner I think 42 minutes.
1 right via track
2 left via clearing
3,4,5 straight (3 was on the top of the gully, not the junction)
6 Z-shape via the big E-W spur
7 left to ridge then down the track
8,9 straight
10 across the gully to the track
11 right via the track
Thanks to Matt and Nola for the event, Jon for the map.

Mid-Week Event, Mt. Crosby, Ipswich

12:00 Thursday 23rd March 2006
"Mt Crosby" 2005 1:10,000 5m
UBD 174 H16 23km West of Brisbane CBD
"Long" 9 controls 3.8km 215m climb (5.7%)
A brutal course, but that's to be expected at Mt Crosby. I ran fairly well and took 57 minutes (15 mpk) and came ?4th, the winner took 42 I think.
2 attacked from the ridge to the south
3 more or less straight
5 right of the line up to the ridge then straight from the road bend. Faffed in the circle and lost two minutes, should have aimed off.
6 doglegged back to the right
7 along the road
9 along the creek
An excellent course from Robin.

Park-O Championships, University of Queensland, St. Lucia, Brisbane

15:30 Saturday 18th March 2006
"University of Queensland St. Lucia" 2006 1:5,000 2m
UBD 179 J3 3.5km SW of Brisbane CBD
"Long" 20 controls 4.1km little climb
A very good course on a brand new map, both by Jonathan Sutcliffe.
My only problems were not being fast enough and getting confused between 17 and 18 where I lost 30 seconds just making sure I knew where I was going next.
I was 2 seconds ahead of the winner at number 2 and 10 minutes behind at the finish.

Mid-Week Event, Bunyaville, Brisbane

12:00 Thursday 16th March 2006
"Bunyaville State Forest (West)" 2003 1:10,000 5m
UBD 117 N8 13km NW of Brisbane CBD
"Long" 4.5km 210m climb (4.7%)
Control 2: general agreement among all including the setter that there is a lot more terrain between the track and the control than is mapped.
Control 3: much discussion of the best route choice but my route choice to the right along the straight track and then approaching the control from the track to the south proves to have about 6 contours from the road east of 2, the route to the left along the track running NE has 9 and the direct route has 12.
My time was 57 minutes, 15 minutes behind the young guns.
Thanks to Jim Bowling for an excellent course.

Come And Try It, Broadwater Park (F R Caterson Park), Mansfield, Brisbane

08:30 Sunday 12th March 2006
"Broadwater Park" 2003 1:7,500 2m
UBD 201 R4 12km SW of Brisbane CBD
"Red Long" 16 controls 4.5km 36m climb (.1%)
I was expecting my 3rd run in 4 days to be hard work but it wasn't so bad. 39 minutes is 8.7mpk, not fast but OK; I made no mistakes apart from struggling crosscountry out of 12. The winning time was I think 32 minutes but all the guns are out of town this weekend at some sort of a training thing.
Thanks to the Calabros and Rob Simson for the map, Tim Apelt and TFOC for the event.

Club Event, Bellbird Grove, Brisbane Forest Park

08:00 Saturday 11th March 2006
"Bellbird Grove" 2000 1:5,000 5m
UBD 136 Q6 13km WNW of Brisbane CBD
"Long" 11 controls 3.5km 170m climb (4.9%)
As always Bellbird Grove proved rugged and hard work. I was pleased with my 39 minutes (11mpk), 10 minutes behind the winner. My only mistake was taking the gully to the west when approaching 10; I had folded my map to obscure it and didn't realise it was there.
Thanks to the Spriggs and UG for the event, CP for the map and Tamsin for the company.

I really enjoyed this excellent course, which took me 39 minutes. 11mpk sounds high but I lost only a little time on a couple of legs.
